How to Play

Welcome to FossilCraft.io! Mine underground to discover fossils, then build whatever you want on the surface!

Step 1: Mine underground to find fossils. Step 2: Take fossils to the Science Lab to create dino eggs. Step 3: Place eggs to hatch dinosaurs. Step 4: Build enclosures and earn money from visitors!

Camera

Hold Right Click and drag to rotate the camera around your character. Use WASD to move in the direction you're facing.

Mining & Fossils

Select your tool (slot 1) and hold left-click on a block to mine it. A progress bar shows your mining progress. Harder blocks like stone take longer to break than soft blocks like dirt.

Water and Bedrock blocks cannot be broken! Bedrock is at the bottom of the world.

Tools

Craft tools at the Crafting Table to mine faster! Each tool gets its own hotbar slot.

Placing Blocks

Select a collected block using Scroll Wheel or number keys. A colored wireframe preview shows where the block will go. Left-click to place it.

Dig deep to find fossils! The deeper you go, the more fossils you'll find. Bedrock at the bottom stops you from going too far.

Crafting Table

Near spawn you'll find a Crafting Table (the orange-brown blocks). Click on it to open the crafting menu. Craft tools to mine faster, and combine materials and fossils to create new block types!

Craft tools first to speed up mining, then use fossils in recipes to create colored Dino Blocks for building exhibits!

Fossil Lab

Inside the Science Lab building, click on the cyan lab equipment or green screens to open the Fossil Lab. Here you can spend fossils and money to create dinosaur eggs!

Fossils are random! Click "Identify" to find out which species a fossil belongs to. Collect 5 identified fossils of the same species (3 for rare Mosasaurus) plus money to create an egg.

Dino Eggs & Hatching

Place a dino egg from your hotbar onto the ground. It will pulse while hatching (60-120 seconds). When it hatches, a dinosaur appears!

Place eggs on dark grass to halve the hatch time!

Water Buckets & Enclosures

Craft a Bucket (3 Metal Fence) at the Crafting Table. Use it to scoop water from the pond (infinite source!) and place water blocks anywhere to build aquatic enclosures for water dinos like Mosasaurus!

Click water with an empty bucket to fill it. Click any empty spot with a full bucket to place water. Player-placed water can be scooped back up!

Visitors & Income

Once you have hatched dinosaurs, visitors will start arriving at the park gate and walking to see your dinos. Each visitor pays admission — rarer dinos earn more money! Build enclosures around your dinos to make a proper park.

You start with $1,000. Earn more by hatching dinos and attracting visitors. Spend money on more eggs to grow your park!

Day / Night Cycle

The world has a full day/night cycle. Watch the sun move across the sky as the lighting and colors change from sunrise through noon, sunset, and into the night!

Click the bed near spawn at night to sleep until morning!

Dinosaur Behavior

Dinosaurs are living creatures with needs and instincts! They can become aggressive in two ways:

Hunger: Over time, dinos get hungry and will chase you for food. Bigger predators like T-Rex and Spinosaurus get hungry faster!
Threatened: Get too close to any dino and it may feel threatened and attack. Herbivores have a smaller threat range, carnivores are more aggressive.
You have 20 hearts of health. Getting hit causes damage and knockback. Health regenerates slowly over time (1 heart every 5 seconds). If you die, you respawn at the surface.

Fighting Dinosaurs

You can fight back! Left-click a dino with any tool equipped to deal damage. Craft a Sword for maximum damage, or use a Tranq Gun to put them to sleep without killing them.

Tranq Gun0Puts dino to sleep for 25-35s
Killing dinos drops fossils related to their species! T-Rex drops skulls, Raptors drop claws, etc. Tranqed dinos wake up after a while — peaceful and with hunger reset.
